How Green Can You Be?

How Green Can You Be?
We spend our days outdoors, helping homeowners and business make sensible choices for their properties. And, we’re often asked about greener alternatives in wood fencing materials and treatments. The good news? there are many ways to lessen your impact on the environment.

In addition to saving resources by choosing eco-friendly materials, like long-lasting composites made from recycled or reclaimed materials, you may also be saving a very valuable resource – your own energy – because these materials don’t require stains or paint, and tend to be maintenance-free, and resistance to moisture, insects, rotting, splintering.

According to author Joyce Benson, there are some manufacturers making headway in the greener-materials battle.

Trex offers fencing made from recycled plastic grocery bags and wood fibers from used pallets and sawdust. Additionally, it does not contain toxic chemicals or preservatives. The company offers a 25-year limited residential warranty and a 10-year commercial warranty.

Natures Composites offers American-made composite fencing from recycled plastic (HPDE) and renewable wheatstraw. This durable, yet natural-looking fence is covered by a limited 20-year residential warranty and a 5-year commercial warranty.

TimberWolf Wood Composite Products offers beautiful fencing made from 70% post-consumer recycled cardboard and 30% post-consumer recycled plastic. The company offers a limited lifetime warranty on its products.

For those materials that do require a stain, there are professional grade non toxic, bio-based natural wood stains such as those  made from soybean oils. These stains preserve wood surfaces and unlike conventional wood stain products, soy ester actually penetrates into growth rings and continues to spread and seal throughout the wood all year to replicate the woods’ natural sap. This achieves enhanced wood protection and beautiful natural colorization. Enjoy enhanced spread rates that are more than double compared to competitive products, making it very economical at only pennies per square foot.

If, the look and feel of a wood fence is in your plans, Texas Rock and Fence understands your “greener” options and will assist you in making the right choice for your landscaping (and budgeting) plan.
